About Me
I am a PhD Candidate at Colorado School of Mines, working with Dr. Qi Han, in the Department of Computer Science. I am affliatiated with PeCS (Pervasive Computing Systems) Group at Mines. My reseach focuses on enabling Multi-user Augmented Reality for Mobile Devices.
Broadly, my interest lies in enabling Augmented Reality (AR) on resource-constrained devices, specifically mobile phones, within the context of multi-user scenarios. Most AR research focuses on segmentation or virtual object placement in the environment. We postulated that online determination of quality would provide feedback to the otherwise open loop system, thereby improving the user experience in AR. To achieve this, we developed tiny neural networks deployable on mobile devices. Additionally, we researched Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), an essential component for virtual object placement in AR, and proposed modifications to enable latency- and memory-efficient SLAM for mobile devices. Our research encompassed both static and dynamic SLAM methods. Leveraging insights from single-user AR, we are now developing Reinforcement Learning models to enable efficient AR applications for multi-user scenarios.
In addition to my AR research, I have worked on voice-based applications for resource-constrained devices. I deployed a system that effectively transfers voice in disaster scenarios using only Zigbee devices and Raspberry Pi. This system is designed for use when communication infrastructure is destroyed.
Apart from research, I am passionate about teaching and mentoring. I have been a TA for various courses during my PhD and Masters. I have also mentored various undergraduate students in their research projects. I have also been a part of various outreach programs to promote STEM education among school students.
Outside of academics, I am interested in various activities, like reading, painting, hiking, gardening and cooking.
